40 Years Chasing These Fish

Captain Dwayne Chavers has been fishing these foothill lakes and rivers for over 40 years β€” since he was barely old enough to hold a rod, around four or five years old. That's a lifetime of dialing in where the kokanee, trout, and kings are biting, and exactly how to put you on them.

The Koke Killer is a clean, comfortable boat rigged for serious freshwater fishing β€” but the trips stay relaxed and family-friendly. Brand new to a downrigger or a seasoned angler, kids and first-timers welcome β€” you'll leave knowing more than when you got on.

What We're After

The Fish We Chase

Hard-fighting, great-eating freshwater fish β€” kokanee, trophy trout, landlocked kings, and big river salmon.

Kokanee salmon caught at Sly Creek Reservoir

Kokanee Salmon

Spring – Late Summer

Landlocked sockeye and the reason we're called the Koke Killer. Bright, scrappy, and some of the best eating you'll find in fresh water. Light-tackle trolling at its finest.

German brown trout caught at Sly Creek Reservoir

Trout

Year-Round

Rainbows and browns depending on the water. From chrome holdovers to true trophies, our local lakes stay loaded with hungry trout.

Landlocked king salmon caught at Lake Oroville

Landlocked King Salmon

Spring – Fall

Full-blown king salmon that live their whole lives in the lake β€” Lake Oroville is famous for them. Bigger than kokanee and a serious fight on the troll.

King salmon caught on the Sacramento River

River King Salmon

Fall Run

Fall-run kings on the Sacramento River from Verona through the metro area. When they push through, these are the hardest-pulling fish of the season β€” pure muscle.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need a fishing license?
Every angler 16 and older needs a valid California sport fishing license β€” buy one online from the CA Department of Fish & Wildlife or at most bait and sporting-goods shops before your trip. Kids 15 and under don't need a license and fish FREE with a paying adult, and we'll do our best to get them their limits too.
What's included in the price?
All rods, reels, tackle, and the use of the boat and electronics β€” plus a light lunch with refreshments and water, and cleaning and bagging your catch at the end of the day. Just bring your license, sun protection, and a cooler for your fish.
How long is a trip?
Trips usually run 4–5 hours, but it can vary with the fish, the weather, and even the moon cycle. We stay out and work to put you on the bite.
Where do we meet, and what time?
We meet right at the lake or river we're fishing that day. Once you're booked, Captain Dwayne will give you the exact spot and time to be there β€” we usually head out early in the morning and stay until the stringers are full.
How many people can come?
Trips are priced per adult with a 2-angler minimum, and we run small groups so everyone gets room to fish. Kids 15 and under come free with a paying adult. Reach out with your group size and we'll confirm what fits comfortably on the boat.
Do you offer any discounts?
Yes β€” we offer a 15% discount for veterans and a 10% discount for seniors. Just let us know when you book. And kids 15 and under always fish free with a paying adult.
How do I pay?
A $50 deposit locks in your booking. The remaining balance is due at the lake on the day of your trip β€” right before we hop in the boat. Captain Dwayne prefers cash, but can also take CashApp if that's easier for you.
Is there a deposit? What's your guarantee?
A $50 deposit is required to lock in your booking, and that deposit is non-refundable. Every trip comes with our satisfaction guarantee β€” if it's just not your day out there, we'll get you back out on another day. We don't offer refunds, but we'll always make it right with a reschedule.
What should I bring?
We provide a light lunch, refreshments and water β€” so just bring your fishing license, weather-appropriate layers, sunglasses, sunscreen, a hat, any extra snacks you like, and a cooler with ice for the fish you take home. Soft-soled shoes are best on the boat.
Is there a restroom?
There isn't a restroom on the boat, but no worries β€” if anyone needs one, we'll run you over to the nearest restroom on shore.
What if the weather is bad?
Safety comes first. If conditions are unsafe we'll reschedule you for another day β€” just give us a call and we'll sort out the details.
Can beginners and kids come?
Absolutely β€” this is a family-friendly boat. Kids 15 and under fish free with a paying adult, and we love teaching first-timers. We'll walk everyone through it and do our best to send the kids home with their limits.
